  • Reputation damage: Small companies can’t afford bad reviews. One batch of failed products can set you back months.

And another thing: small orders. When I was starting out, I’d get quoted sky-high prices or flat-out ignored because my quantity was “too small.” That’s frustrating because small doesn’t mean unimportant—it means testing, prototyping, growing. The suppliers who treated my $200 orders seriously are the ones I still use for $20,000 orders today.

Honestly, the hidden cost of poor material selection isn’t just financial—it’s the time you waste firefighting instead of building your business. I learned that the hard way.

A Better Way: Working With a Supplier Who Gets It

So what changed for me? I started working with suppliers who have a broader product range and the willingness to advise on material selection. They’ve been willing to discuss small-volume trials, which is rare among big resin suppliers.
