When Toray Isn't the Answer

As much as I rely on Toray for high-performance carbon fiber and engineering plastics, I have to acknowledge: not every rush job calls for premium material. If you're producing non-critical commodities (say, standard ABS for enclosures), a smaller specialty compounder might deliver faster and cheaper. The vendor who says "this isn't our strength—here's who does it better" earns my trust for everything else. (Honestly, I'm not sure why some distributors pretend to be full-line suppliers. My best guess is they don't want to lose the sale, but it costs them credibility.)

Also: the tensile strength of T1100 at 3,530 MPa is impressive, but it's overkill for many applications. If your design calls for T300-grade strength (2,500 MPa), don't pay the premium for T1100 just because it's available fast. I've never fully understood why buyers default to the highest-grade carbon fiber when a lower grade is sufficient—it's like ordering a race car for grocery runs.

Final Thoughts (and a Boundary Note)
