HDPE isn't brittle, but it's low-friction to a fault—if you feed it through a dull blade at high speed, the heat builds up, the edge melts, and you get a fuzzy, stress-cracked line. That melted edge can be a starter for failure later.

What works for me on a table saw: a sharp triple-chip grind blade with a high tooth count, blade height just above the sheet thickness, and a slower feed rate. The boundary matters. If you're cutting HDPE for a temporary fixture, a low-cost commodity sheet is fine. If you're casting a decorative part, a budget casting resin will do. If you need a cosmetic front panel with no structural requirement, don't feel pressured into aerospace-grade fiber. Value over price doesn't mean "always buy the premium option." It means "price the risk, not the label." The right time to pay for Toray T1100G or a certified HDPE grade is when the failure mode costs you money, time, or a customer. If a part is non-critical, spend accordingly.

And please, if you find yourself filtering a sourcing spreadsheet by lowest unit price alone, stop and write the inspection criteria first. It's a lot cheaper than learning the hard way.
